Gregory Halpern likes to get to know a place in a roundabout way, by putting himself in the path of unexpected encounters. In Oklahoma City, this meant time spent in boxing gyms, a barber shop, a rodeo, and parts of the city both new and old. For Halpern, it’s about finding those moments when the real reveals itself, and an unguarded encounter can occur. In doing so, he forms a moving, impressionistic portrait of Oklahoma City—where people and landscape meet.

Alessandra Sanguinetti uses contrast to reveal the life beneath the surface, the life we don’t always see. To do this, she must establish a sense of intimacy with her subjects.
